JCHC Board Approves Hospice Funds to General Fund

The Johnson County Healthcare Center's Board of Trustees voted to transfer funds from the Hospice Donation Account to the Hospital's General Fund at their monthly meeting Wednesday.

This is a common occurrence, according to Hospital Administrator Sandy Ward, who said this year, revenues exceeded expenses in the Hospice Account, due to them having an exceptionally busy year.

The Healthcare Center traditionally subsidizes Hospice at a loss, so this year Ward recommended to the board a $25,000 transfer from Hospice to the general fund.
Ward told the board that Hospice had made a profit without any contributions this year, but that the Hospital had suffered some significant losses in the past, so this transfer would help defray some of those losses.

The issue of reimbursing the hospital came up a number of years ago during an audit, Ward said, when the auditor noticed a large amount of money in the Hospice contribution fund and asked why the hospital wasn't being reimbursed for their losses. The hospital has transferred funds from the account as they could since, Ward told the board. The board approved the transfer.
