Acting Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder is no longer just filling a vacancy after he was sworn in as Buffalo's Police Chief at the Buffalo City Council meeting Tuesday evening.
Municipal Judge Mary Hupy swore Carder into the position he has filled since Mike Chapman stepped down from the position last fall.
Carder said after the meeting he is excited to accept the position and that he is eager to continue the great programs and traditions of the Buffalo Police Department.
Carder, whose family was in attendance to see him sworn in, said they knew he would be nominated for the position at the meeting, after Mayor Randy Dyess told them they might want to attend to see him nominated and hopefully accepted.
The Council unanimously approved the Mayor's recommendation to appoint Carder.
