Sheridan Fire-Rescue has joined fire departments across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, and SFR will host an open house at the fire station Saturday, October 15.

Fire Marshal Brian Songer says area-students will be visiting the fire station all week, learning some fire safety tips that they can take home and share with adults as well.

The open house will be from 10 am to 2 pm the fire department at 151 S. Scott Street, and SFR invites everyone to the family event, Songer said.

Examples of common fire and safety hazards will be on display at the open house. Also, there will be a junior firefighter challenge along with tours of the fire station and rides on the firetrucks. A free barbecue starts at noon.
