This past spring the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees approved $9.8 million to enter into a contract with Cerner to design and implement a new state of the art electronic medical records system at the hospital.
One of the main differences will be an electronic nurse charting system. The hospital currently uses a hand written nurse charting system. Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty says that this will be a big benefit to the patients and all of the staff involved.
McCafferty says that physicians and staff will continue to go through rigorous training with the software before the switch is flipped next year.
McCafferty stated that if everything remains on schedule, the hospital should go live with the new EMR system in August of 2012.
