The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Board held their final meeting of 2010, and spent several minutes listening to a presentation by and asking questions of Brian Bolton, with KWN Construction. Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty explains.

Originally estimated to be just over 12,000 square feet, after getting further into the schematic design, Mr. Bolton told the Board the square footage has increased to about 14,500 square feet at $279 per square foot. McCafferty comments.

McCafferty several times approached the Board asking them to take further steps to commit to going forward with the project, given that there still may be another four months of design review to complete.

Action taken at the meeting: the Board approved a $13,445 capital improvement expenditure to purchase a new bladder scanner. This is not a budgeted item, but the current one is seven years old, is battery powered, and is not charging properly to be utilized when a patient needs an ultrasound done. The project will be paid for by using savings in the current capital budget from previously replaced or canceled projects. That total is currently at $121,000.

Also, Facilities Manager Rob Forister made a $50,000 request for remodeling the Information Systems, or IT, Department. While this is an out-of-budget expense, there are several IT projects on the horizon, including finalizing the selection of a vendor to provide Electronic Health Record. Regarding the latter, the Board was intending to take action on the vendor selection, but Chief Information Officer, Nyle Morgan, told the board that a bit more study needs to be done before he can recommend which vendor to choose.
