Dispatch Centers around the country have been honoring their telecommunication personnel as the industry observes National Telecommunications Week.
In Sheridan, emergency dispatchers so far have been acknowledged with gift cards to some local businesses, and allowed to wear jeans to work for the week.
There are currently eleven full-time dispatchers working out of the Sheridan Police Department. Kathy Baker has been at the center for nearly twelve years. She says the recently implemented GPS locating system has been working fairly well.
A telecommunications operator has to be at the ready at all times during a shift, able to calmly and methodically handle any type of call that comes in. Supervisor Cynde Godwin had found the perfect reminder of what her team does.
With another operator taking a call in the background, Kathy reads from the poster framed above the call center.
On behalf of Sheridan Media, we thank all the Telecommunications Operators who work to help all citizens 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
