Holiday Reality Check: Toy Safety

Not exactly a safe toy for kids.
Not exactly a safe toy for kids.

The Consumer Producer Safety Commission reports more than 140-thousand children across the country wound up in E-Rs last year because of toy-related accidents, and 13 children died. Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association President Diana Rhodes says that a little extra review by parents when buying toys will go along way.

When buying gifts for older children such as bicycles or skateboards, Rhodes stated that a helmet should be purchased as part of the gift. Rhodes said that when buying presents for young kids you should always remember that children under age three tend to put things in their mouths, and toys with jagged edges or projectiles aren’t suitable for young children. The 2011 “Ten Worst Toys” from W.A.T.C.H. lists a Power Rangers Samurai Mega Blade that suddenly extends two feet as an example of a toy too dangerous for young children.
