The Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School was nominated for a Blue Ribbon for academic excellence. Principal of Henry A. Coffeen Elementary School, Nicole Trahan, says their success is a team effort.

The U.S. Department of Education created the Blue Ribbon Schools Program in 1982 to recognize public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels. Additionally, the program recognizes schools where significant improvements are made in academic achievements of the students.

If the elementary school does receive the Blue Ribbon award, Trahan says it would be the third school in Sheridan to receive the honor. She stresses that every child has the potential to be a leader, and that sometimes, the kids end up teaching the teachers.
