Health Insurance Premiums Rise for County Employees

The Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners first adjusted the costs of health insurance to county employees and their families in 2005, requiring employees to pay $100 a month for a spouse to be covered.

Due to increased medical costs since then, the commissioners have consistently voted to increase the amount of premium costs employees must contribute. Administrative director for Sheridan County, Renee Obermueller, explains they are just trying to stay in step with national trends.

At their meeting Tuesday, the commissioners approved a resolution to require employees contribute between 18 and 20 percent of their premium costs for coverage under the county health care plan in addition to that paid on the employee's behalf by Sheridan County.
