It's been almost a year since the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Obama. Sheridan Media News Director Ron Richter sat down with Sheridan Memorial Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty to discuss all things health care.

Either for or against, health care reform is certainly an issue that many people have strong feelings about. Sheridan Memorial Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty feels that mandates handed down by the Government aren't the answer to our health care woes. He says that Medicare and Medicaid programs are good examples of what happens when there are too many governmental regulations.

The cost of medical equipment and keeping up with the ever changing technology are a couple of other reasons why the price of health care continues to escalate.

McCafferty said that medical malpractice reform or tort reform has also been a factor in the high price of health care, as it forces practitioners to order more tests for their patients to try and avoid a malpractice lawsuit.

Be sure to join us Wednesday, when we'll take a look at how regulations intended to prevent fraud and abuse with Medicaid and Medicare may actually have a negative effect on the health care industry.
