Note: This story ran earlier in the week. We are running it again this morning for those that may have missed it.
A full scale HAZMAT/Emergency Management drill will be happening this morning in Buffalo.
Residents need to be aware of the exercise and understand it is only a drill.
Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly describes what the emergency will be based on.
Connolly said emergency first responders such as Police, County Sheriff, County and City Fire, ambulance, the National Guard and other officials will be responding to the drill, using it as a training and communications drill to measure how well emergency responders handle this type of situation.
The drill is scheduled to begin at about 9am today and will be focused in the Stockyard Road area between South Bypass Road and TW Road. Barricades will be placed at South Bypass and TW Roads with signs saying there is a drill in progress.
The public is advised to avoid that area during the drill, which is expected to take the morning to complete.
The Wyoming National Guard is expected to take most of the afternoon to complete their portion of the drill.
Sheridan Media will have updates throughout the morning to keep the public informed on the status of the drill.
