At their first regular meeting of 2013 Wednesday evening the Buffalo City Council welcomed new councilman Dave Long and re-elected councilman Bill Hawley during a swearing-in ceremony.

Buffalo Municipal Judge Mary Hupy performed the ceremony.

Hawley participated in Wednesday's meeting, but Long will officially take over his council seat as of Monday, Jannuary 7th, as explained by Mayor Randy Dyess. Dyess said newly elected officials begin their terms on the first Monday in January, as per state statute.

Councilman Dave Long replaced Scott Madsen on the council after winning the seat in the General Election in November 2012.

Madsen was appointed to the seat in 2012 after then-councilman Justin Gerard resigned the seat after an arrest on drug charges earlier in the year.
