The first of two Habitat for Humanity Application Periods of the year will be held later this month, and an informational meeting will be held Tuesday, June 22nd.

Melissa Brackley is the Office Administrator for the local Habitat for Humanity. She explains what a family needs to do in order to apply for a potential Habitat home.

Brackley indicates that several homes are in the works right now, so these new applicants, if selected, can expect a groundbreaking sometime in 2012. She describes the purpose of the June 22nd meeting.

The Families are expected to contribute a certain amount of sweat equity for their particular home, but not without help. During these summer months, retirees who travel the country with the Care-a-vanners, along with about a dozen AmeriCorps volunteers are helping work on the current Habitat for Humanity homes being built. But volunteers are needed year-round, says Brackley.

If applicants are unable to make the informational meeting coming up at the Sheridan Fulmer Public Library at 5:30 pm on June 22nd, Brackley says an appointment can be made through the Habitat office by calling Melissa Brackley at: (307) 672-3848
