The Wyoming Game and Fish Department issued a media release stating that hunters should be alerted that Gray Wolf Hunt Area 2, the Sunlight Management Unit northwest of Cody, closed December 6th at 9:10 a.m. The area closed because the mortality quota of eight wolves was reached.

Wolf seasons close in hunt areas where the species is classified as a trophy game animal when the mortality quota is reached or when the season closes on December 31st, whichever comes first.

Wolf hunters are reminded to pick up a copy of the 2012 Gray Wolf Hunting Regulations and call the Gray Wolf Mortality Quota Hotline at (800) 264-1280 before going hunting to determine which hunt areas are still open. Information on hunt area closures and quotas is updated daily.

Any wolf harvested in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area or the Seasonal Wolf Trophy Game Management Area from October 15th through February 28th must be reported by calling the above hotline within 24 hours. Also, the pelt and skull must be presented by the licensee within five days to a game warden, wildlife biologist or Game and Fish regional office for registration.
