CHEYENNE, (AP) - Governor Dave Freudenthal has signed into law
a measure establishing standards for when police should take detained juveniles to jail. The Legislature's Joint Judiciary Interim Committee sponsored House Bill 12, which Freudenthal signed Thursday.
Supporters say the measure will give law enforcement a uniform way to assess whether children should be jailed. They say the bill will also help officers determine whether those children who need to be locked up should go to the most secure facilities or be taken elsewhere.
