Wyoming Governor Matt Mead addressed a number of issues during his monthly news conference this week. Mead cited a recent report that shows Wyoming ranked number one for school financing.
The Governor said that he and legislators are fairly close on most budget issues in regard to the supplemental budget, but that they remain at at odds over adding to the rainy day fund or putting those funds into the Permanent Mineral Trust Fund, which is what legislators are likely to do.
Mead also expressed concern about possible federal gun regulations that may be coming down the pike.
In the wake of the school shooting in Connecticut and the murder at Casper College, the Governor has put together a task force that will provide recommendations on school safety. Mead stated that the task force is looking at School Resource Officers and how the State can make school buildings safer, especially as Wyoming builds new schools.
