Going Toe to Toe With Cancer

Twenty teams gathered at NSI Friday night to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and raise money to fight back against the ravages of the disease. This was Sheridan’s 18th Annual Relay for Life. Ninety-seven percent of the money raised will be used to help find a cure for cancer and Relay for Life committee member Carrie Brantz says that’s a worthy goal.

Team members camped out overnight and one person from each team had to be on the track at all times, walking or running around the track. Cancer patients cannot walk away from the disease and neither should Relay participants.

The highlight of each Relay for Life is the Luminarie Ceremony in which the names of cancer survivors as well as those who lost their battle to the disease are read as team members walk the track.

Sheridan’s Relay for Life is looking for help for next year’s event.
