Updated Mapping Shows Gilead at 730 Acres

The Incident Response Team assigned to the Gilead fire reports that updated mapping of the fire now shows it at 730 acres. A media release issued early Friday indicated that it had grown to over 900 acres.

The fire, which spewed smoke into the skies over Sheridan this morning, was started by lightning August 14 in an area of the mountains inaccessible to fire crews. The Type 3 incident management team assigned to the fire has communicated their intent to wait for the fire to come to an area where it is safe for firefighters to engage. In the mean time, the fire is being watched via helicopter reconnaissance and water drops. Priority is given to protection of private lands and structures, but none are reported threatened at this time. To see a map of the fire, click here.
