UPDATE- The Gilead Fire Incident Management Team confirmed that the fire has grown to 5,632 acres and is still sitting at 5% containment.
Aerial ignitions were completed to reinforce firelines along the eastern flank of the fire yesterday. These actions created significant smoke throughout the area. Continued progress was made to hold and improve lines increasing firefighting safety and move towards containment.
Ignitions will be continued today if the weather cooperates to bring the fire to more favorable terrain and fuels. Structural assessment will continue for areas south of the fire towards Paradise Guest Ranch and Hunter Mesa.
Saturday, warmer and drier conditions are expected with lower humidity. Fire danger continues to be considered Extreme due to very dry conditions, and Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Bighorn National Forest.
