Over the past two fiscal years, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has had nearly $7 million cut from their budget. This has resulted in the department having to make cuts in education programs, conservation, and wildlife monitoring. State Senator Bruce Burns is the Chairman of the Senate Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Committee and says that the issue is one that will be addressed once again by legislators during next year's budget session.
At a recent public meeting in Jackson, Trevor Stevenson, Executive Director of the Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance was very critical of legislators, stating that it's important to not let politics get in the way of fully funding the Game and Fish. He added that the long term solution for the department's budget issues are to broaden the funding sources.
