Ft. Mackenzie HS Completes Laptop Pilot

Fort Mackenzie High School recently completed a four-year pilot program aimed at increasing technology in the classroom.

The program entailed issuing each student a laptop computer to employ for research, homework, and collaboration with other students. English teacher, Mick Weist, reported to the Sheridan County School District #2 board of trustees the program has gone better than expected.

With control measures in place to ensure appropriate internet usage by students, the 1:1 laptop trial program has gone better than expected. Very few computers were broken or otherwise damaged by students, and aside from cutting the school's paper usage by approximately 75 percent, the laptops have become instrumental in preparing students for the real world.

Though the computers have held up well, many batteries are starting to need replacement. This issue may cause the board to purchase new laptops for the students a year ahead of schedule.
