Local city and county law enforcement held an emergency management drill Friday morning at Sheridan College. Northern Wyoming Community College District Police Chief, Jason Vela, says the drill focused on a scenario involving a barricaded suspect - all to test procedures and response times to this type of crisis.
Vela says the drill began at 9:15 a.m. Friday, with a call to 911 - then to participating authorities. The crisis management team at Sheridan College soon evacuated the building where the drill took place and put other campus buildings on lock-down.
Students were alerted to the drill via the campus's overhead audio system, but administrators say they want to look into additional ways to communicate with students during a crisis. And by 9:42 a.m, the drill had run its course.
School Resource Officer with the Sheridan Police Department, Dan White, says drills like these help control the inevitable chaos that takes place during a crisis.
