Talking income tax can cause some people to panic, but the students and faculty of the Sheridan College business department are there to help the community with their income tax returns through a government program called “Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance” or VITA. It gives the students hands on experience, but be assured, the tax returns are always reassessed by experienced tax reviewers.
The tax returns must be simple and limited to incomes less than $65,000 as well as small businesses with no depreciation or employees and no farming or rental income.
Appointments can be made by calling the college. The free tax preparations are offered on eight different days.
