The 10th annual Free Hazardous Material Collection Day will be Saturday from 9am to 3pm at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Buffalo.
Household waste, pesticides, herbicides, incesticides, poisons, used oil, tires, vehicle batteries and e-waste will be collected from farmers, ranchers, homeowners and individuals from Johnson County. No commercial or business oil or tires can be accepted.
Nikki Lohse, with the Lake DeSmet Conservation District, said over the ten years the collection day has happened, tons of hazardous materials have been collected for safe disposal.
Lohse said anyone bringing material that is in a non-labeled container needs to be fairly sure of what it is so it can be identified.
County residents just need to bring their waste to the fairgrounds (be prepared for a short line) and drive through the collection area. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload the items and answer questions.
