Every year at Fort McKenzie High School, the students of Sharon Bedard's drama class present a melodrama. This year, about fourteen students will bring "Perils on the High Seas, or Let's Get Together and Do Launch" to audiences. Set on a cruise ship in the 1920's, junior Chance Wambolt explains the plot.
As melodramas are wont to do, characters' names usually are a play on words -- in Chance's case he is Skeet Suitor, poking fun at the practice of shooting skeet off the side of ships.
Also in the show is junior Charlene Williams, who describes her role.
And Joey Carpenter is a rather colorful character on the ship.
She says that as is the custom with most melodramas, the audience is encouraged to throw popcorn, boo the villains, cheer the hero and heroine, and in general just have a rollicking good time.
Curtain opens for "Perils on the High Seas..." Friday and Saturday nights, March 12th and 13th at 7 pm. The show will be in the Early Building Gymnasium -- perfect for sweeping up popcorn -- and tickets are available at the door. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Soda and popcorn will also be sold.
