The bark beetle has no doubt been reeking havoc throughout parts of Wyoming over the past few years, but for the most part, the infestation hasn't been too severe in the Big Horn Mountains. That is starting to change, however, as both the west and east slopes of the mountain are starting to show signs of damage.

Forester Chris Thomas with the Big Horn National Forest says that the beetles are starting to make their mark closer to home.

Thomas explains what's being done to try to combat the problem in the more developed areas.

Thomas says fighting the beetles with chemicals only goes so far.

Be sure to join us later for part two of our series on bark beetles, as we'll take a look at what, if anything can be done if they infest wilderness areas of the Forest.
