Food Bank: Stop Donating Junk

Food Bank: Stop Donating Junk

Unsuitable donations to the People's Assistance Food Bank have caused the organization to rework its entire business model.

Dan Lick, director, said he's scaling back some services previously offered by the food bank in order to clean up it up a bit.

Lick said he sees weekly instances of unusable donations that actually do more harm than good to the cause.

In fact, Lick said the Peoples Assistance Food Bank has to expend hundreds of dollars each month to dispose of thoughtlessly donated goods. Therefore, he asks all people have their donations reviewed by a volunteer when dropping anything off. This will ensure a contribution doesn't actually backfire and hurt the cause of the organization.

Lick said that during the Food Bank's busiest days, he helps between 120 and 160 customers, and turnout is up even on slower days. With so many people in need of help, Lick is determined to keep the food bank functioning.

For more information, call the food bank at 674-1509 or stop by People's Assistance Food Bank at 2560 North Main Street.

The City of Sheridan periodically holds "Free Landfill Days" at the landfill. The next free weekend is at the end of this month.
