The City of Sheridan Utility Maintenance department will be flow testing fire hydrants throughout the city starting today. The purpose of the testing is to evaluate the fire flows of the hydrants in the City. Customers may notice a reduction in pressure and there may be a slight discoloration of the water.

Two crews will be conducting the flow tests; one will start working in the South Hill area, east of Big Horn Avenue and south of Huntington Street. The second will be working in the North Hill area, which includes the Sheridan County Fairgrounds and the Scott Addition neighborhoods.

We will keep you updated as to which areas will be tested next. The department hopes to have all the hydrants tested by July, 2010.

A couple of tips: if you notice discolored water, run your water for a few minutes and it should start to clear up. Also, if your water is discolored for more than 24 hours, contact the department at 672-0129.
