Heavy rainfall throughout the day and evening caused flash flooding throughout parts of Sheridan County Tuesday that included the temporary evacuation of residents in Downer Addition to the the K-Mart parking lot.

Just before 9 pm there were erroneous reports of a “wall of water” heading toward Downer Addition from a failed dam West of Sheridan. The flash flooding that occurred was not from a failed dam, but indeed from the heavy rains that occurred earlier in the day.

WYDOT also closed Highway 14 East for a short period of time late Tuesday afternoon due to flash flooding. The weather forecast calls for more rain today which could be heavy at times with flash flooding possible.
