The first ever boat inspection in the Sheridan region for aquatic invasive species took place Friday morning at the Sheridan Regional Game and Fish Office. Game and Fish Information Specialist Warren Mischke says that a Bighorn resident voluntarily hauled his boat in for inspection.

Mischke said that Stephens had drained, cleaned, and dried his boat before returning to Wyoming and no aquatic invasive species were found. Furthermore, Mischke stated that Stephens cooperation is the exact type of attitude that's needed to keep zebra and quagga mussels out of the state.

The Wyoming Legislature directed the Game and Fish Commission to enact emergency regulations that require all boaters using Wyoming waters to have an aquatic invasive species decal on their boat. Also, the Game and Fish Department will be conducting inspections at major waters around the state on a rotating basis. Click here for more info about the regulations.
