Fire Marshal for the City of Sheridan, Brian Songer, has a message for residents and visitors who plan on using fireworks to celebrate later this week.
He says fire departments across the country report more than 22,000 fires started by fireworks each year – and more than 7,000 injuries that require medical attention. In Sheridan alone, Songer says there have been fires started by improper use of fireworks.
If you decide to use fireworks this week, especially of the aerial variety, Songer advises safety precautions be taken and that you ensure the surrounding area is clear of anything that could catch fire. Consumer fireworks are allowed in the unincorporated areas of Sheridan County from June 27 through July 11 and during December and January.
