Fire Prevention Is A Large Part Of The Mission Of Sheridan Fire-Rescue

The yearly report on Sheridan Fire-Rescue’s fire prevention efforts was released this week. The report states that Sheridan Fire-Rescue completed over 300 inspections of motels, restaurants, schools, day cares, and Main Street businesses throughout the year. Sheridan Fire Marshal Brian Songer says prevention efforts were very successful last year.

Songer expects that all noted violations are being addressed on a voluntary basis.

Not all the department’s prevention work involves commercial inspections.

Child safety seat checkpoints, fire extinguisher training, CPR and First Aid classes are a few other educational prevention programs run by Sheridan Fire-Rescue throughout the year. Songer says results don’t always appear right away. He also noted that the number of major fires in Sheridan dropped in 2009 compared to 2008.
