A change of plea hearing was held Friday in 4th Judicial District Court for 24-year-old Sheridan resident Jamison Finley. Finley plead guilty to two charges of aggravated assault and battery for brandishing brass knuckles during an altercation with Derek Berretinni and Terrance McDougal of Sheridan in May of this year. During the altercation, Finley's co-defendant in the case, 19-year-old Riley Larkins fired a handgun at the vehicle that McDougal and Berretinni were in. Larkins was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison for his actions in mid October.
Terms of the plea agreement with the State are 2 to 4 years for each count to run concurrently and be suspended in lieu of a 1-year split sentence and 4 years of supervised probation. The plea agreement also orders Finley to pay $2,897 in restitution that will be split with Larkins. District Court Judge John Fenn reminded Finley that the Court is not bound by the terms of the plea agreement and may reject it at sentencing. Fenn then set a sentencing date of January 27, 2012.
