Ushering in the Christmas season Thursday night, over 400 people gathered in the Sheridan Holiday Inn to participate in the 18th Annual Festival of Trees, the major fundraiser for the Special Olympic athletes in our area.

Anita Badgett, area director for Special Olympics has been involved with the Festival of Trees from the very beginning.

It was Christmas galore as Christmas trees of all sizes and settings, wreathes, ornaments and a wide variety of gift items were available to buy.  Donna Gregersen was there for a special reason.

Attendees were also treated to a delicious meal, plus the chance to participate in a penny raffle. Then there was the opportunity to bid on some pretty exciting gift packages in both a live and silent auction.

Special Olympics is one of the largest volunteer-driven athletic organizations in the world, involving over one million athletes who are developmentally disabled.
