A community festival planned for the weekend includes a paint-throwing race. Leslie Stratmoen has the details.
Students who've had difficulty in a traditional school setting, so are seeking a new path in Sheridan will be sharing their musical talents this weekend as part of the first-ever festival at the NSI Academy. Gary Flohr is the director of the alternative school. He said the school, west of Sheridan, brings in students from across Wyoming, both boys and girls age 12-18, and from other states like Montana, Iowa and California.
He said the students will be performing Friday night, during the community barbecue. They'll take over the stage during intermission of The Craft Brothers show. The event starts at 6, and runs until 9.
They'll also perform Saturday, as the celebration continues. The day's events start with a Color Run.
Registration for the race can be done in advance online or at 8 the morning of the run. The race starts at 9. On the grounds for the weekend will be activities for children and an inflatable slide. Tours of the campus will also be given. Both the food for Friday night's barbecue and Saturday's hot dogs and hamburgers will be served free of charge. There is a $30 fee for the race, which covers the cost of entry, a T-shirt and the paint. The school is located about three and a half miles west of Sheridan, off state Highway 331.
