The Sheridan County Fair Association Board of Trustees continue to discuss how to right the wrongs of Arena 1 at the Fairgrounds. Facilities Director Melissa Albrecht informed the Board that in late February Tom Jones from the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds in Casper paid a visit to look over the arena and offer some advice.
Albrecht says that the much known about drainage issues are what prompted her to contact Jones.
Some of the advice that Jones offered was to dig up the arena layer by layer to get down to the area of compacted clay that is not allowing the arena to drain properly. He also advised that crews work the arena more consistently throughout the summer and also said that the Fairgrounds arena working equipment is too light to dig down deep enough to reach the problem area. Albrecht said that it's possible that they may rent the needed equipment to use during this year's Wyo Rodeo.
Since the crew at the Fairgrounds is fairly new, Albrecht indicated that they may be going to Casper in May to learn some tricks of the trade.
Jones also suggested sloping the arena for drainage, and that they needed to redirect the run off from the grandstands away from the arena.
