CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A former employee and a former contractor of Marathon Oil Co. both face up to 20 years in prison over an alleged kickback scheme.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Brett Mathew Lattin and 48-year-old Mark Alan McGregor of Sheridan pleaded guilty this week to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Lattin was accused of steering contracts to McGregor when Lattin was a contract supervisor for Marathon from November 2006 through October 2007.
Prosecutors say Lattin approved about $5 million in payments to McGregor, including $2.45 million for work that was never performed, in exchange for McGregor kicking back $600,000 to Lattin.
A sentencing hearing is set for June 8.
