Mike Enzi addressed the Senate Monday regarding a democrat-proposed plan to reduce student loan interest rates by increasing small business taxes.
A media release from the senator's office reinforced Enzi was strongly opposed to the legislation because of funding issues. However, he still wants to help students.
The republican alternative bill called for taking money from a health care slush fund. Enzi said more taxation on small businesses would be detrimental to Wyoming's economy.
Enzi said that while both republicans and democrats agree something needs to be done about skyrocketing student loans, the issue of contention lies in how to make up for the costs.
