(Updated 12-21 with corrections)-- First Light Children's Center is now accepting applications for students as it prepares to open at the Sheridan Economic and Educational Development Authority's facility on East Brundage Street.
First Light Executive Director Ann Perkins.
They plan to open to students on January 16th. Perkins said that they have hired two more staff members: Missi Hubert will be Morning Glory Preschool teacher and Michael McGuire will be Full Day Lead Teacher for the Preschool room.
First Light plans to offer a full-day preschool program, run by McGuire from 9 am to 4 pm with extended care options of 6:45 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm. Extended care carries and additional fee.
There will be five hours of instruction using the High Scope curriculum. McGuire will also implement a physical education class for First Light students. Along with his BS in Exercise Sport Science from the University of Wyoming, McGuire has his MS in Health and Human Performance from Fort Hays State University. He received his teacher certification from Montana State.
The standalone Morning Glory program will run from 8:45 to 11:45 am. It will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 2- and 3-year-olds, with a capacity for 16 students. The program will be available to 4- and 5-year-olds on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, which have a maximum of 17 kids.
Hubert will also use the High Scope Curriculum in her classroom, and the program will follow the Sheridan County School District 2 school year calendar.
Hubert received her BA in Elementary Education, Endorsement: Early Childhood from the University of Wyoming. She worked five years as primary classroom teacher at Lumberg Elementary School in Edgewater, Colo.
First Light's goal is to eventually serve about 140 kids just as the Hand-in-Hand Center did when it was at capacity.
