In Johnson County District Court on Tuesday, August 6th, Trevor Edwards was found guilty by a jury of one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree.
In a news release from Johnson County and Prosecuting Attorney Ken DeCock, Edwards, 20, was found guilty by jury of the offense stemming from a relationship he had with a 14 year-old girl.
According to the release, evidence showed that Edwards met the victim at her 14th Birthday Party and shortly after began a sexual relationship with her.
A videotaped confession by Edwards was also shown to the jury.
Edwards faces a maximum 20 years in prison when he is sentenced.
After the trial DeCock said, “Sexual abuse of children often begins with seemingly innocent relationships. Children cannot legally consent to sex, and young adults must be vigilant and abstain from sexual contact with children.”
Edwards' sentencing hearing is expected to be scheduled in approximately 60 days.
