The Sheridan County board of commissioners has granted approval to Big Horn Land & Leasing, Inc., to establish a gravel quarry just off of East Ridge Road.
No crushing will take place at the new quarry site, but the new operation will entail excavation, grading, stockpiling and hauling of topsoil, which will cause increased big truck traffic on roads nearby. Jason Spielman, owner, explained more about the project to the commissioners.
When the proposal was introduced, the area was already zoned I-2, Industrial. Spielman said the land is a raw resource his company can use.
The agreement stipulates the county and the company that runs the quarry will share the costs associated with dust mitigation in the area. The hours of the quarry will be 7 to 5 Monday through Friday. The quarry is now free and clear to operate for the next 20 years.
