The Vision Buffalo Commission, on behalf of The Crazy Woman Square Redevelopment Project, had a “call to artists” to submit plans for two murals to be located on the Hitching Post Building and on the Margo's Pottery Building, and a local artist team was awarded the project earlier this month.
City Planner Zach Montgomery explains more about the mural project.
The themes are “A Creek Runs Through It” and “More Than A One-Horse Town,” keeping with how people think of Buffalo, he said.
Two options for how to proceed with the murals were given by the artist team, Montgomery said. Option one would have both murals completed in one year, but would have been more expensive. Option two would allow the team to complete one mural this year and the other next year, and the artists would give a 25% discount on their price.
Montgomery tells us more about option 2 and where funding will come from.
The mural project will begin in June with the mural on Margo's Pottery building and will be completed next year with the mural on the Hitching Post site after construction in the square is completed this year.
