JACKSON (AP) - Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole is up for sale, leaving locals wondering what might happen to their storied old ski hill just a few blocks from downtown Jackson.
Snow King was established in 1939 and is Wyoming's oldest ski area.
For decades, Snow King has been overshadowed by two big destination resorts in the Jackson Hole area, Grand Targhee Resort and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
Meanwhile, ski operations at Snow King are losing money - at least $500,000 a year despite much local loyalty.
A Jackson nonprofit group offered to take over the resort's ski operations, but talks with the resort owners ran aground last summer.
Snow King officials say their asking price will depend on which combination of resort assets a buyer might wish to acquire.
