Nathan Doerr has been named new Director of the Sheridan County Museum, as of January 1, 2011.

The Sheridan County Historical Society issued a media release Thursday announcing that Nathan Doerr has been selected to become the new Director of the Sheridan County Museum. Former director Dana Prater resigned from the position in early December.

Doerr, who has served as the museum's Curator of Museum Education for the last five years, will continue to wear that hat, and as director, he tells us.

Doerr came to this career in a very round-about way, starting out with a degree in environmental science. He did several seasonal stints with the Forest Service and the Park Service, and it was when working on his Master's Degree that the museum experience came into play.

So might he incorporate his love of the natural sciences with the museum's more cultural focus?

And about his time working under Prater's guidance, he says.

As for museum hours, while the actual exhibits will not be open until late spring, Doerr will have the Museum's Mercantile Gift Shop open starting January 11th; hours will be Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1 pm to 5 pm.
