Among the 400+ bills going through the 2011 Wyoming Legislative Session is one dealing with an amendment to the Budget bill to add 4% back into the Developmental Disabilities coffers. When Governor Dave Freudenthal was in office, he had cut 10% of the funding for agencies like RENEW, Easter Seals, Jodi's Heart and others that work with clients with developmental disabilities.
RENEW CEO Larry Samson is in Cheyenne this week and updates us on that funding.
The amendment is co-sponsored by Senator Bill Landen, a Republican from Natrona County and Representative Kathy Davison, a Republican from Lincoln, Sublette and Sweetwater Counties.
Samson says that he and others from agencies around the state have been in Cheyenne working with the legislators, and they are “cautiously optimistic” the amendment will pass both houses.
Samson said he hopes they will know by the end of this week whether the amendment goes through.
