The first Sheridan County snowpack of 2013 has been released by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has the details.
Despite the recent snowfall, the report shows below normal snowpack to date with the Tongue River Basin at 83 percent of normal and the Powder River just below normal at 96 percent. These averages are up 14 and 10 percent when compared to the beginning of the week.
Total precipitation at the Tongue River drainage snotel sites is below average at 76 percent, while total precipitation at the Powder River drainage sites is 98 percent of average. While the snows during the past week have improved snowpack statewide, the southeast and eastern border basins remain far below normal and the northern and western basins are near to slightly below normal.
