Department of Health Offers Recommendation to Sheridan Memorial

The Wyoming Department of Health has recommended to officials with Sheridan Memorial Hospital, that the hospital offer testing for three diseases to patients who used airways during surgery that were not adequately sterilized. Department of Health Spokesperson Kim Deti.

Deti says that while the conversation with representatives with Sheridan Memorial was positive, she wasn't sure if they would follow through on the department's recommendations or not.

An investigation, conducted last November, found that the hospital had altered its method of sterilization in Laryngeal Mask Airways away from manufacturers recommendations in May. The department of health requires hospitals to sterilize based on manufacturers recommendations.

The Board of Trustees for Sheridan Memorial will be addressing the issue at their upcoming meeting next week, as it is on the agenda as an item of discussion.
