The Wyoming Department of Health is reminding people that not all documents labeled as “birth certificates” are considered as official birth certificates frequently needed to prove identity. Registration Supervisor Matthew Rowe says if you are trying to renew or obtain your driver’s license and want to use a birth certificate to prove identity, a hospital birth certificate will not work.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation began requiring official proof of identity for driver’s licenses earlier this year to be consistent with federal security regulations. Official birth certificates are the most common document accepted under the new laws as proof of identity.
Vital Statistics Services is located in Cheyenne at 2300 Capitol Avenue on the first floor of the Hathaway Building. For more information or to order a certified birth certificate, you can call the Department of Health or log on to their website at http://www.health.wyo.gov/.
