The Dental Hygiene Students at Sheridan College invited approximately 400 kindergarteners to the campus to celebrate annual Kindergarten Day Thursday. Instructor, June Biss, said the tradition of college students educating youngsters about dental hygiene is decades old, but the enthusiasm of this year's class of hygienist students made this year extra special.
The little ones were greeted by staff and students dressed in rainforest theme apparel, which included everything from safari leaders to cheetahs and frogs. They were then led down an elaborately decorated hallway to a craft station, where they made face masks out of paper plates. From there, the kids were treated to an educational, and funny skit, that touched on the basics of how to care for teeth before being given rides in a dental chair and an opportunity to learn about tools dentists use.
Each child was sent home with a goodie bag and hopefully, a positive attitude about oral care.
