The City of Sheridan parking ordinance has been a hot button issue lately, as the City Council several meetings ago directed staff to take a look at possibly strengthening parking regulations. Police Chief Richard Adriaens, City Engineer Lane Thompson and City Attorney Alison Ochs reviewed the current ordinance and concluded that better enforcement of the ordinance would solve many of the Council's concerns regarding City parking regulations.
Last week the Council elected to take the route of better enforcement instead of making an major changes to the ordinance at this time. One area of question with the current ordinance has been what exactly is the definition of abutting property. Engineer Lane Thompson explains.
City staff are currently working on a plan to educate the public about the ordinance and plan on reporting back to the Council in a couple of months for an update on how the education period has fared.
